WHY HAVE A TRANSIT & PROGRESSION CHART PREPARED?

In Astrology, the Natal or birth chart is a snapshot of the heavens at the instant of birth with the planets frozen in time.  The planets, their placement and their angles to each other and specific points in our natal chart tell the individual’s personal story.

Once we are born, the planets continue their movement around the zodiac.  The birth chart or natal chart placements, however, remains intact for our lifetime.  The movement of planets after our birth is known as transits and progressions.  We will not go into detail on these interlinking movements in this post, but suffice to say the movement of planets and the stationary planets of our birth chart will make aspects to each other and will tell a story over and above the story told by our Natal chart.

When these transiting (moving) planets align with natal planet placements (and much depends on the overall condition of the natal chart), areas of your life defined by the house positions of the transits and progressions as well as the house positions of the planets in the natal chart are activated and life events and reactions begins to unfold.  This unfolding is experienced on an intuitive level at first when the transiting planets begin forming an aspect (angle between these links) and then can be experienced on an external level through events as the energies become enhanced by the joining up of other planetary influences.

Astrology can pinpoint when these areas of life will become activated and how these energies may affect you.  However much depends on the attitude you have during the activity and the duration of its effects on your life and to the intensity of what transpired.  Astrology prepares you for this upcoming energy entering your life and can provide you with clues as to how to deal with the energies and events or take advantage of what may transpire over the coming periods while the transiting and natal planets’ energies merge.

What is an Oracle Card reading? 

Simply put, Tarot cards, for example, are oracle cards but they speak the language of Tarot and that is the language the reader speaks.

PLANET'S ACTIVITY IN ASTROLOGY

We have received questions as to how you can see events in the astrology chart.

We are going to use Pluto as our example.  Let’s say that Transiting (Current position) Pluto has been in Conjunction with your natal (birth position) Venus for some time now.  Pluto will move very slowly through the heavens.  It can affect your Venus for up to three years and for people very sensitive to the energies of Pluto, it could last as long as five years as they will sense the influence of the energy much earlier and much later than most other individuals.  Pluto on Venus suggests transformation in your love life or changes directly related to your finances.  There are other translations but we will stick to these predominate and obvious few energies.

We will not discuss the meaning of Transiting Pluto on Venus in detail.  What we are concentrating on is when this aspect will be enhanced and when to expect activity.  The closer transiting Pluto moves towards being direct in this example, (in other words when it is less than one degree in separation or moving towards the specific degree Venus is in your chart), the stronger it becomes. 

You ask, however, “What actually activates this transit?”  It might become activated when it sits directly on Venus, within 10 minutes or so, but more than likely when Pluto is within range, (so under a half of a degree from Venus’ position), one of the inner planet will activate this transit.

The inner planets that activate energies or stimulate action are Mars and the Sun in particular (also Uranus, an outer planet, when it is direct).  You can often use Uranus to pinpoint the timing for events within a couple of days.  The progressed Moon also stimulates activity and this takes place the closer it is to being direct (at the same degree).  The progressed Moon has an influence for a period of three months, when in aspect.  The influence from the progress Moon is when it is one degree approaching, one degree while direct and one degree separating.

For example, if Venus is 15 degrees Capricorn in your chart; as Pluto begins to affect Venus, you will notice some activity, at least on a mental level.   When Pluto is about 1 degree or less of being direct, (14 degrees approaching) its energies will grow in intensity as it approaches.  If transiting Mars or the transiting Sun is moving towards this 15 degree Capricorn, or in opposition (180 degrees) to this degree or in square (90 degrees) to this degree, it will stimulate activity and bring out the potential of what these energies suggest in your chart.  You will also have to look at which house is being transited by Pluto as well as the house natal Pluto resides in within the birth chart as these will be the areas of life that will be affected by this transit of Pluto to Venus.

The trines (120 degrees) and sextiles (60 degrees) from transiting Sun and Mars will also affect the timing but it may not be as noticeable as the energies of a square or opposition and especially by the conjunction (0 degrees).  The conjunction is widely used as a timer in Astrology.  Checking to see when this is activated either from the Sun or Mars will help you to pinpoint the potential for activity.  You may be able to narrow down the time to one or two weeks. 

As mentioned, the progressed Moon especially by conjunction will often activate any planet it makes contact with and you can often use this as a tool for pinpointing timing of events as well.

ADHERING TO OUR PRINCIPLES

We always have choices and there are always alternative viewpoints which we can either choose to ignore or choose to accept.  We can honour our principles, although these principles are subject to change as we mature and evolve. 

We are never at the mercy of life although certainly there are times when events take place that are completely out of our control.  We do, however, always have choices as to what is appropriate and what is not appropriate for our greater good.  We have choices in our attitude towards anything in life and these choices we make will affect our future.

Most of us move continually towards our objectives base on our life’s principles (with the odd side step and stagger occasionally).  We adapt and we mold ourselves in ways that clearly define us to others, but more importantly our principles clearly define who we are to ourselves.  We can form opinions and decisions based on these principles which are forged over time and we take on the ones that suit us within this current moment, therefore some of these are subject to change as we evolve.  Isn’t that was evolution is all about – adapting and growing.

The basic principles we adhere to are reflected in our expression of compassion, our expression of faith, our state of peace and joy and the list goes on. 

As we evolve, if we are open, we notice part of our earthly selves or attitude could and would benefit from adjustments or even removal.  We can begin to realize tendencies towards envy, anger, violence, obstruction and ego generated attitudes that we have taken on, without notice, as life unfolds.  To release some of these may be challenging to say the least as we believe them to be a part of who we are.  Once we stop identifying with them, however, it becomes much easier to shake them off.

Our goal is to accept what we see in ourselves in the moment without identifying with each characteristic as being a part of who we are. 

We can strive to live up to all that we feel is desirable and let our true inner core radiate outward through our loving expression towards all things.

SAMHAIN, HALLOWE’EN, WINTER’S NIGHT

Today, October 31, in the northern hemisphere, marks the end of the harvest season, summer’s end, a holy day for witches, the wiccan/pagan new year, all hallows eve, the day of the dead, the beginning of Samhain.

There are many cultures and many ways to celebrate this time of year. 

The days are much shorter and the sun much lower in the sky.  There is less dancing in the sunlight and the mood changes around us.  The long dark nights ahead of us give us a wonderful opportunity to reflect and go deep within. 

Who are we? 

What weight have we been carrying on our backs?  Can we dispose of some of this? 

What journeys would we like to embark upon? 

What opportunities have we squandered?  What opportunities have we taken advantage of? 

What is our heart telling us?  What given us goosebumps?

Celebrate this day in whatever way feels right for you.

OUR PREDETERMINED COURSE

Is our life’s route preplanned?  If so, do we orchestrate this plan?  What is our part in this course of action?  How are we a determining factor in what takes place?

These questions are certainly a point of interest for many.  There are question after question concerning whether our lives are predetermined or whether we play an integral part in the overall events that seem to play an orchestrated role in our lives. 

Many believe that we have set in motion the events in our lives before we were conceived and we were pushed into full earthly existence at our birth.

Is it possible that we, as our soul energy, placed requirements that must be met at some junction point in our lives?  Did we put together a set of learning experiences that would unfold during life to enable the much needed experiences and evolutionary growth so that we can move in our intended direction?  Are these events actually valuable lessons? 

These certainly are some of the concepts in place to offer an explanation for our existence. 

Is this existence comparable to a dream?  What part are we playing as this dream develops forward? 

Regardless if this is a dream or something else truly does not matter.  The important part is that we stay focused in the moment and live there to the best of our abilities.  Our focus slowly manifests over time and our concentrated attention to detail writes the story of our emotional experience of this life.  Therefore, it is imperative to be appreciative and to center our focus on what is and not on what should have been or could have been.

Back to our beliefs……some individuals believe that although the route is preplanned, our own free will can step in at any time and we can make alterations along the road.  There are always choices and when we come to those forks in the road, we make the conscious choice on which path to follow.  There are no mistakes along the way; just lessons.  Our choices can create tedious lessons or simple easy lessons. 

I am not going to be any help here for you to decide what feels right for you.  You can form your own opinions and rightly so, for who knows better than you about your lessons set in motion? 

Not only do we have a spiritual connection to our higher selves but we are our higher selves.  At any time, we can go deep within to find the answer to any of our questions.  We have a connection that can’t be severed and can never be lost. 

Our journey teaches us and pushes us in the direction that promises the greatest growth.  It is up to us individually as to what we choose to believe in, how we wish to motivate ourselves and what course we will take.  What is experienced is our own personal quest, and we will always learn the lessons we must as all paths lead to the same end result.

GETTING BACK TO BASICS WITH ASTROLOGY

Sometimes it is good to have a bit of a re-freshener with Astrology.  The fundamental basics are essential and need to be utilized even when using the most advanced techniques. 

With the subject of Astrology, we will always be students.  We will NEVER know all that there is to known on Astrology as it is an ongoing science.  As an Astrologer, it is essential to always be open to and welcome continued education as we will be a permanent student of Astrology.

The sign positioning and house positioning of planets and significant angles (MC, ASC, DC, IC) are the most relevant in determining the areas of life (houses) and the relevant signature traits (signs) indicated in a chart.  Always look to these positions and placements to get a clear picture of the energies inherent in the chart.  House placements and Sign positioning emphases, as well as a major chart configuration, such as a Stellium in a house or sign for example, will greatly enhance the chart.

The Sun, the Moon and the Ascendant are determining factors in the individual’s expression and greatly enhance the character traits of an individual.  Again a Stellium, for example, in the sign of Leo or an emphasis in the fifth house ruled be Leo, will significantly change the character of someone with a Virgo or Capricorn Sun for example.  This is a perfect example of why some people do not match their Sun sign character traits (and for the simple fact there is so much more involved in an Astrology chart than just the Sun sign).

Tight aspects between Planets or Angles have a profound impact on the energies of the planets or angles that are aspected.  For example, using the Leo signature again, it will be very difficult for the Sun in Leo to have the usual flair and ego consciousness if there is a square from let’s say the Moon and Saturn.  It would take hard work to bring to the forefront the emotional response of the typical Leo and its release due to the square from Saturn (restrictions) and the Moon (emotions).  This individual would have to work very hard to express themselves emotionally and with much vigor in comparison to say someone with a Leo Sun with a conjunction from Mercury, Jupiter and Venus or a rising sign of Leo as well as a Sun in Leo. 

Angles or aspects from other planets help determine how challenged or with what ease an individual can release the energies from that planet.  The energies are also influenced greatly by the energies of other planets.  For example, a Sun in Leo individual with a conjunction to Uranus in Leo would also be somewhat eccentric in their expression and have a very unique character.  With a Pluto conjunction this individual would express themselves in a more dynamic manner and have great power in their self-expression.  This could point to leadership abilities being enhanced, but could also indicate a domineering individual.

Astrological configurations, as well as an emphasis on an aspect or lack of aspects, will also have a profound effect on the individual’s life journey.  A person with a Grand Square will have much more challenging conditions in life than someone with a Grand Trine.  The Grand Square individual will have opposing factors within their life’s mission but can use these energies to propel them forward in life once these energies are harnessed.  The Grand Trine individual will have a greater ease in obtaining benefits than that of other individuals, but may also become complacent and sit back far too much when they should be pushing themselves forward.

These are a few examples of the factors which must be considered when deciphering a natal chart.   Although they may seem rudimentary, they are significant and should never be overlooked when determining factors at work in an individual’s Astrology chart.
