THE ELEMENTS IN ASTROLOGY

Regardless of how long you have been a student of Astrology, the basics always need to be forefront and continually refreshed. 

 

Most of us understand our birth signs but did you know that each sign has an element? 

 

There are four elements in Astrology - Air, Fire, Water and Earth. 

 

The signs governed by the element Air are Gemini, Libra and Aquarius. 

 

The signs governed by Fire are Aries, Leo and Sagittarius. 

 

The signs governed by Water are Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces and the signs governed by Earth are Taurus, Virgo and Capricorn.

 

In a birth or natal chart, all the planets are influenced and placed in the astrological signs, just like the Sun.  For an example, Pluto is at 23 degrees in the sign of Capricorn (November 2020).  If you were born in the eighties, for example, your Pluto was in Libra or Scorpio, depending on what year you were born. 

 

As mentioned the signs are all influenced by one of the four elements, so if you were born with Pluto in Libra your Pluto is under the influence of Air.  If your Pluto is in Scorpio, it is under the influence of Water.  These elements are very significant in Astrology and particularly influential with the inner planets in your natal chart. (Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus and Mars)

 

If your birth chart has a strong influence of Air, you will live primarily in your mind and seek information and knowledge with a great desire to share this with others.  If you have a strong emphasis with the element Fire, you may consider yourself or others would consider you dominating, always on the go and usually motivated to invest everything you have into your endeavours.  If you have a lot of Water in your birth chart, you can easily lose yourself through your intense emotional makeup.  You are in tuned to the emotions.  If you have a strong emphasis on Earth in your natal chart, you would consider yourself security minded and are tuned into your immediate environment and would be considered down to earth and practical.

 

In an Astrology chart, you can also have what is considered a weak element.  This is when a particular element is lacking in your chart.  We will not go into any description of lacking an element as we are striving to keep our posts a “quick read”.

NEW MOON IN SCORPIO NOVEMBER 15, 2020

We will be experiencing the energies of a New Moon in Scorpio at 23 degrees on November 15, 2020 at 12:07 a.m. 

 

A New Moon speak of new beginnings and is a great time to start a new process.  Perhaps you have been making plans for some time now and are not sure when you should begin to push ahead.  This event, in most cases, would be that time.  The more this positioning corresponds to placements in your natal chart, the more relevant it will be for you.

 

Since this New Moon is in the sign of Scorpio, it will take on Scorpio energies.  Scorpio has to do with investigation, intrigue and delving beneath the surface of matters.  Finding the truth and uncovering any of life’s mysteries would correlate with Scorpio energies.  It is linked to the psychic realms of life and is often connected to taboo subjects that are not always discussed openly.  There is something secretive about what takes place, and it may be hidden to others. 

 

Research and transformation are associated with Scorpio.  This speaks of new conditions taking hold in life due to the dismissal of something that is no longer relevant.  There is often an ending of sorts before this new beginning can start.

 

The New Moon occurs when we have the Sun and Moon in conjunction with one another, so the house position at 23 degrees Scorpio will be the area of life involved.  If, for example, this New Moon makes a conjunction, the most powerful aspect, it brings an emphasis and combines the energies to whatever planet or angle that the New Moon will make the conjunction to. 

 

An example might be the natal Sun and this would be considered one of the most powerful connections that this placement would make, depending on the other planets that the Sun makes aspects to in your natal chart.  The Sun has to do with goals in life, life’s direction and who we are deep down inside.  Who we are deep down inside closely mimics Scorpio’s intensive search for truth and deep connections.  With this placement, we may decide to make changes to our path in life and changes to the way we see ourselves.  Deep inner reflection will be part of the process and our goals and objectives might reflect this.  We could go through major transformations over the next several months and finally reach our culmination point in about 6 months’ time.  The effort we put into whatever we wish to achieve during this time will be revealed in approximately 6 months when the Full Moon will be in Scorpio.  We will reap the rewards according to the energies we have put forth.

 

Another example might be this New Moon attached to the natal Moon and do not forget that any planet or angle has to be within a three-degree orb.  So, if we are experiencing an opposition to this placement to the Moon for example, your Moon would need to be between 20-26 degrees in the sign of Taurus. 

 

The Moon is reflective of our emotions and is connected to activity around the home and family, often suggesting change on some level.  So our emotions will be stimulated by this New Moon and they will likely be more intense than normal and although we may feel the need to keep things internalized, it would be advised to speak your mind and to express your emotions to those you trust under this influence. 

 

Much can be achieved, and security and stability from an emotional perspective has potential to be elevated to new levels.  With the opposition example perhaps someone instigates things and causes you to look within and make changes, after your own personal review.  In this case you would look at the Moon’s position in the natal chart as well as the New Moon’s position and other aspects to the natal Moon as this will all need to be considered before reaching a conclusion on what your chart is speaking of.

 Allow yourself more latitude, more personal identification, and more self-promotion. 

 

You are fully capable of addressing any situation.  You have the ability to move in any direction that you may wish to take.  By rely on yourself, you gain confidence and strength.  You will more clearly recognize what you are capable of achieving. 

 

When you rely on others to make decisions or create ideas, you sell yourself short and you can lose sight of your own competence.

 

Recognize your capabilities and gain strength with every decision you may. 

 

Do not fear failure.  It is our greatest teacher.  Everyone makes mistakes along the way.  We learn from our shortcomings and become wiser because of these mistakes. 

 

Never hold yourself back because of fear.  Fear is the only thing that stands in the way of progress.

 

You are your own answer and no one else understands YOU the way you do.  Why then should we solely rely on others to dictate how to move forward?

PLANET IN ITS OWN SIGN

A planet in its own sign (example if you have Saturn in Capricorn, Jupiter in Sagittarius or Mercury in Gemini or Virgo) also known as a planet in its rulership or dignity, is strengthened and intensified.  Planets in their own signs are comfortable in these placements as they are at home.  The energies are enhanced, and you can use these energies the way you wish to.  You are in control, and these are very favourable positionings. 

 

Someone with Saturn in the sign of Capricorn would have executive abilities or would at least work well within their occupation.  They would undoubtedly have leadership abilities, should have a leading role in what takes place whether this be within the working environment or in orchestrating life’s objectives.  They would be reliable, steady and in control or at least this is how others would see them.  They would be someone you would feel comfortable assigning duties to and you would feel as though they would do their best to produce the best product.  They may appear very businesslike and willing to go the extra mile.  They could also be relied upon to work towards the betterment of whatever they apply themselves to and they would feel responsible for the outcome or at the very least want to help achieve a favourable outcome for whoever is involved.

 

Someone with their Jupiter in Sagittarius would have a fondness for travel, and they could actually do well in some type of travel business.  They would appear to be optimistic in their life’s approach and would also seem to be fairly lucky with their endeavours when their Jupiter is in favourable aspect by transit.  They would have an open view on religion, be honest and open to dialogue when discussing religious doctrines.  They would have a wide open view with life philosophies and probably share their views with others.  They may appear jovial, optimistic and willing to learn what life has to offer.  Their approach to life would be on a grand scale and nothing would be halfway or stifled especially when it comes to mystical learnings, religious schooling and philosophic teachings.  They would make good teachers, good clergy, some would enjoy a religious path and become priests or nuns or take on new wave religious training and become ministers.

 

Someone with Mercury in Gemini and from a different perspective someone with Mercury in Virgo would be very adept in learning.  Those with Mercury in Gemini would have a quick mind, be very receptive to communication, open in their dialogue and always willing to learn anything new and exciting.  They would do well in the teaching profession, they could make excellent writers, good public speakers and would be proficient when it comes to learning new languages and actually quick to learn almost anything that is put before them.  They have a quick, responsive and agile mind.

 

Those with Mercury in Virgo also have good mental capabilities.  They would also be avid learners, able to decipher anything with great detail, and proficient with their understanding.  They would also be perfectionists and able to come up with viable conclusions to detailed reports.  They would make excellent secretaries, valuable for their preciseness and agility.  They would also do well in most businesses due to their diligent approach and ability to orchestrate objectives into practical form.  They would do well at problem solving, detecting any flaws in any system and would actually find great pleasure in putting things in their proper order.  The mind would be deep, introspective, analytical and precise, not missing anything that that needs to be deciphered.

 

As you can see by the examples we have used a planet in its own sign is very favourable, although as always we will need to take into consideration how the planet is aspected by other planets which will help determine its efficiency and how its energies are released.  The house placements will be the areas of life where these energies play out.

ATTITUDE TOWARDS LIFE EVENTS

 We have been advocating and practicing a positive attitude towards life’s events. 

 

A positive attitude moving forward is essential but it is also important that we do not try to avoidance the lessons that life is teaching. 

 

We are not meant to skim along the surface of life.  We are also, however, not to get caught up in situations due to our attitude towards what life offers us either.  Experience the moment. Learn the lessons, enjoy the interaction and acknowledge that life is what it is.

 

Nothing in life fails to support us in some way or another.  It is not so much the events that are heavy but our attitude towards them that weighs us down.  The things that we fight are often the most valuable lessons that offer up growth. 

 

We cannot escape these experiences and we only make the lessons harder by trying to escape what we need to learn.   We are not meant to be victims; we are meant to be students. 

 

Our attitude can move us quickly through a lesson or hold us back from learning it.  Most often, events and circumstances have to be played out before we can move forward.

TRANSITING PLUTO AND VENUS SQUARE

November of 2020 and Pluto is currently around the 23/24-degree mark of Capricorn and moving as far ahead as 26 degrees almost 27 degrees into April 2021 then going into retrograde motion where it stays until October 2021.

Pluto’s energies transform and regenerate and often suggest that an end of sorts is on the horizon. Of course, there will need to be other factors in the Astrology chart suggesting something similar. Pluto seeks to change things that no longer are suitable for our evolutionary quest. Quite often we will get nudges along the way which prepare us ahead of time of what is approaching.

 

Pluto is an outer planet (yes I still refer to Pluto as a planet) and as a result often brings change and disruption that in many ways appears out of our control. Pluto linked up with Saturn at around 22 to 23 degrees of Capricorn in January of 2020 intensifying the energies as they merge as one.  We all know what unfolded around that time. If you had planets aligned natally at that time to this connection, you would have been influenced by this conjunction and likely in a very powerful way. There is nothing that would be considered half-way about Pluto and there is likely to be some struggle about steadiness and the need for change which will cause disruptions.

 

Venus has to do with love and affection and is also related to the finances. Venus is also connected to young women or women in general. The Moon is more representative of the mother than Venus so unless you have the Moon in aspect at the same time, the woman that might be involved is likely not your mother.  Venus also has to do with socializing and when connected to Pluto the likelihood of transformations involving gatherings may unfold.

 

Venus is a very social planet and represents our ability to be hospitable and even generous. If linked with Jupiter in the natal chart, the generosity part of this aspect is generally increased and a jovial and often carefree and open attitude is part of the natal profile for those with this aspect interacting with Jupiter in their birth chart.

 

If love and affection is part of the picture under this influence, the square often suggests that there is a testing period especially when Natal Saturn is involved. If things are not subject to transformation, the potential for an ending of sorts is likely. Squares usually imply obstacles to be overcome and stressful conditions are at hand; however, they also suggest that due to stressful conditions, we are pushed to make changes or life itself presents us with the necessary change that is a requirement for the soul’s evolution. We actually need stressful aspects in order to propel ahead in life.

 

What takes place will depend on the houses involved. We must look into the house transiting Pluto is moving through as well as the house where Transiting Venus is located to get a clearly picture of which areas of life are involved. If, for example, the second house is part of the picture then finances and security issues are likely part of what is taking place. If it is the fifth or seventh house involved then partnerships, either marriage partnership or romantic partnerships, or it could also have something to do with your children, which is fifth house related.

 

You should also have a look at the natal placement of Pluto and Venus to see if they are connected. The natal profile must always be taken into consideration when delineating transits. The whole chart and its transits will jointly relay the information for any current life events.

TRANSITING JUPITER SQUARE VENUS NOVEMBER 15

November 12 to November 21 2020, transiting Jupiter in the sign Capricorn and Venus in the sign of Libra will be in square to one another. Neither Jupiter or Venus are in retrograde and if you allow a three-degree orb approaching and a two-degree orb of separation, this will be the time that the square energies will be in effect.  The strongest dates will be November 15, 16 and 17, 2020.  If you have planets in the natal chart close to the degrees (approximately 20 to 24 degrees) of these transiting planets, your natal planets will be affected.

 

Jupiter and Venus together, known as the greater and lesser fortunate, have much in common. The energies of both these planets harvest good fortune, bring happiness and love and also influence an appreciation for life’s magical moments.

 

Jupiter expands everything it touches, and Venus brings love and affection to the forefront. Both planets speak of financial opportunities and both bring good luck and good times to the forefront. We wait for these two planets to combine in the sky and make aspects to our natal positioning of planets and significant points.

 

The only potential problems with this combination (because this aspect we are discussing is a square which usually suggests some challenging conditions along with hurdles to overcome) is if this is a time of love and romance (which is often suggested with Venus in the picture) you may blow things a little out of proportion. As mentioned, Jupiter expands on things and makes life fortunate and appealing when joined with Venus. Make sure that what you are experiencing is as huge as it feels, particularly so if Neptune plays a part in this equation.

 

In general, affection and love are part of the process, but there are circumstances that the person you are attracted to can bring hardships. This, however, should not stop you from pursuing the person of your dreams if they are who you believe them to be. Be sure to see them for who they truly are and do not build on something that is created only in your mind. You may find that you are a bit impulsive at this time, jumping without proper forethought is not advised.

 

This can be a great time for socializing and just plain having fun. Enjoy life; have fun with the energies at hand. Some individuals will travel during this time and find love and affection during these travels. Although due to the pandemic, travel may not be advised. Once again, see everything for what it truly is and understand that the relationships with many of those we meet under this aspect can be short lived especially if Uranus is involved in the equation.

 

You will probably enjoy the wide-open spaces and the beauty that surrounds you, but you really do not need to travel to find this. Often this is right in your own back yard.

 

Watch for overspending and the feeling that nothing can go wrong. It probably will not but never put yourself in situations where you leave yourself vulnerable (This is especially true if Mars or Pluto are involved).
