PART OF FORTUNE

There are two formulas to calculation the placement of your Part of Fortune.  There is a day calculation (you sun is above the horizon in your natal chart) and a night calculation (the sun is below the horizon in your natal chart). 

Most Astrologers (with a few exception of some modern practices) still use the two formulas as these are very accurate calculations. 

The daytime formula is to add the Ascendant degree to the Moon’s degree and then subtracting the Sun’s degree. 

The nighttime formula adds the Ascendant degree to the Sun’s degree and then subtracting the Moon’s degree. 

Here is a reminder of the degrees of each of the zodiac signs to assist with the calculation. 

Aries - 0°-29°,  Taurus – 30° -59°,  Gemini - 60°-89°,  Cancer - 90°-119°,  Leo - 120°-149°

Virgo - 150°-179°,  Libra = 180°-209°,  Scorpio - 210°-239°,  Sagittarius - 240° - 269°,  

Capricorn - 270° - 299°,  Aquarius - 300° - 329°, and Pisces - 330° to 359°

Again, the daytime and nighttime calculations take into consideration the placement of your Sun in the natal chart.  Daytime calculations are calculated when the Sun is above the horizon (houses 7-12) while nighttime calculations are determined if your Sun is below the horizon (houses 1-6). 

There are many sites available which will do the calculations for you by inserting your information and being given the Part of Fortune placement.  If you choose to do your own calculations always use the total degrees as set out in our chart above.  If you do use your own calculations remember that the seconds and minutes only go up to 59 not 100.

Here is an example.  In the natal chart the Sun (below the horizon) is 23 degrees Scorpio, the Moon is 7 degrees Libra and the Ascendant is 1 degree Scorpio.   

Ascendant  (210+1= 211), Sun (210+23=233) and Moon (180+7=187)

Ascendant+Sun-Moon = Part of Fortune (sun below horizon)

211+233=444-187=257 (257° (within Sagittarius) -240 (Sagittarius starting degree) =17) which is 17° Sagittarius

The Part of Fortune relates to worldly success and its energies are definitive together with the MC’s energies.  Astrologer Noel Tyle refers to this as the mid-heaven extension and describes the Part of Fortune as the areas of expertise we might follow or advance towards as this describes what suits us in our vocation and career. 

The Part of Fortune is also associated with our health and physical body, (together with the Ascendant, the sixth house and the twelfth house).  The twelfth house is known to speak in terms of health conditions, and issues that are chronic, and lifelong illnesses.

It is important to take into consideration the ruling planet of the POF.  In our example above the POF is in Sagittarius and therefore the ruling planet is Jupiter.

If, for an example, the POF were in Capricorn, the ruling planet would be Saturn or if in Scorpio, the ruling planet would be Pluto and so on.  The general condition of the ruling planet in the natal chart is quite definitive and should be considered relevant when trying to decipher what the occupation and the vocation might be.  Remember, there can be a huge difference between our vocation (our calling) and our occupation (what we do for a living in order to survive).

The sign and house position of the POF is connected to inborn character traits and abilities not taught through traditional means.  The North and South Node define our path in life and the POF may help us move in that direction.  Innate abilities or God-given talents are also found in quintiles and even any bi-quintiles (respectively 72degrees and 144degrees) found in our chart.  So integrating these understandings will assist us in our journey and push us towards our objectives that should be our personal goals to be accomplished.

The aspects to the POF along with its ruler play significant roles in determining the ease of its expression or the challenges linked to using these energies appropriately. 

Remember if you find that your POF is very challenged in the birth chart, it only means that it will take more work and dedication to reach these objectives but they are certainly still attainable. 

It is said that nothing worth-while comes without some work, and accomplishment is directly related to our belief in whether we can reach our goals or not.

VOID OF COURSE CONTINUED

(Part Two) what’s appropriate to pursue and what is not)

We are continuing our focus on Void of Course Moon in Astrology from March 4, 2018  Please read www.holmastrology.com/apps/blog/show/46440944-void-of-course-moon  for a definition of “VOC”.

Many individuals explain that they experience synchronicities relating to the spiritual or mystical when the Moon moves into its Void Of Course motion. 

There may be something “other worldly” about this period and this may explain a feeling of apparent impartiality towards material or ordinary living.  As mentioned, people seem less concerned about material living and appear to be ungrounded and out of sorts.  Applying this to rational thinking, we might determine that this could be a time of connecting with our higher self and/or oneness with our source, the whole.  I know this sounds rather religious but in reality, all things are energy and this energy is a whole.

Spirituality does not have to take the path of “in-the-box religion”.  I know that the route travelled by traditionally religion offends some but if this is the path that is comfortable for you, so be it.  We are all unique and are here to learn our own unique lessons.  Whether you believe you will learn best from traditional religion, nature, spiritualism, etc. please follow your heart.

Whatever path feels perfect for you, it will include times when it is necessary to look within, time for self-reflection, prayer (particularly of appreciation) and meditation (the act of listening).  Under the influence of the Void of Course energies, it is best to steer clear of any material objectives but enlightenment, on some level, is much more attainable now, if the desire is authentic. 

Under the influence of the Void of Course energies, it is not wise to attach ourselves to material objectives, from buying a new vehicle or pursuing financial gains through speculation or risky ventures.  Beginning a business project or asking for a raise or promotion might not be timed favourably under the energies of the Void of Course energies either. 

It is always suggested to wait until the next major aspect makes contact (most Astrologers agree that only major aspects should be used).  In this Astrologer’s opinion, there is not enough data to make an informed decision on whether we should wait until the next minor aspects or major aspects.  Perhaps the disruption, or in contrast, the energies of spirituality and occult leanings are more enhanced and more energetically inclined through the major aspect and this might be the reasoning behind such thinking.

As mentioned, if you feel that you need to begin something relevant to your life’s situation either from a spiritual perspective or material objective, it is advisable to wait; however, if you have little choice on the timing, have the steps formulated ahead of the Void of Course energies by someone else.  You may be better off taking a back seat than stepping into the driver’s seat.  The same may apply to legal proceedings.  If at all possible, it is best to wait to entertain such ideas or start such endeavors as the potential for some type of setback is often likely when the Moon is Void Of Course.

When it comes to make decisions concerning personal matters, it would also be advisable to wait for the Void of Course energies to pass.  Buying a house or deciding to arrange a marriage celebration or pushing ahead with having children would be included in this list. 

Most Astrologers believe that the Void Of Course energies are similar to those of retrograde planets (with the exception of Saturn, of course) as the energies are not in full force or are held back.  This period of time should be used to formulate a plan of action rather than pushing ahead with your action.

It is, however, always suggested that you rely on your own intuition and to not be led by anything or anyone.  Astrology is most certainly a viable tool which is at your disposal, but freedom of choice and freewill is the key to our life’s lessons. 

It is said that even the most appropriate aspects regardless of how favourable, do little to offset the Void Of Course energies.  Move ahead at your own discretion and live your life in accordance to what you feel serves your true purpose is always best.

MASTERING OUR SELF PERCEPTION

In order to become proficient at self-understanding, we will have to recognize what our attitude towards and our perception of “self” actually is.  

Every aspect of us, as an earthbound individual, is determined by our mental belief structures.  By knowing and acting upon this, we can rise above any mental self-limitations regardless of when they were created or even “why” they were created for that matter.  By simply un-identifying with this attitude and/or conceived notions, we set ourselves free from ownership of them.

If we do not like what we see, we can change our perspective on who and what we think we are.  We are not our thoughts yet we believe this to be true.  Our human mind is fickle and will change what it thinks on a regular basis.  How then can this be who we are?

We are constant, deep within....forever growing but still constant.  We are only limited if we limit ourselves through our beliefs.

We can, at any time, rid ourselves of any unwanted, stagnant, detrimental notions that hold us back in our evolutionary growth.  We are the only one that can take these steps for we are the only one that controls our own personal perception of self.  

Others can say what they want; for their opinions are simply that....”their” opinions and these opinions do not belong to us nor do they create us.  Why would we limit ourselves to other people’s opinions then?  

Why would we not allow concepts and beliefs that resonate with our true self.....those concepts and beliefs that propel us to a new or heightened image of our own self. 

Standing back and taking an honest, non-judgemental look at who we believe we are, can set positive change into motion.

Why adopt something that creates restraints?  

We can propel ourselves in directions that no longer limit or stagnate our growth. 

Understand, beyond a doubt, that this individual that you wish you could be is already a part of who you truly are.  Recognize your inner beauty and truly see yourself through loving eyes.  You WILL be amazed.

NEW MOON - MARCH 6, 2019

We are experiencing a New Moon at 15 degrees in the sign of Pisces, today March 6, 2019. 

A New Moon’s energies are conducive to new beginnings.  They are a great time to forge ahead with plans, especially those of Piscean nature for this New Moon due to its current position in the sign of Pisces.  In a positive sense, this can be related to projects of a personal or business nature connected to mystical and/or psychic expressions.

Whether a novice or a veteran with these areas, you will find a rush of activity related to the psychic, spiritual or occult fields due to the sextile from Mars. 

Often Pisces, especially when connected to Neptune, can emphasize vagueness in perception.  Neptune is closely aligned with this New Moon’s placement and is conjunct this position currently at 16 degrees of Pisces. 

Although potentially vague or out of focus, Saturn will enhance the clarity of this positioning due to its sextile from Capricorn at 18 degrees.  Saturn tends to bring things into focus and makes perception much more reliable and concise.  Mars will likely energize these positions and bring vitality and a strong push for those that have these areas of interest in their focus. 

Having a look at where this New Moon falls in your natal chart, along with any natal aspects to this position, as this will help to identify what energies are at work and what areas of life will be involved for you personally.

Neptune in its own sign offers opportunities for anyone interested in psychic development and can open the door for greater perception and enlightenment.  Saturn in its own sign in Capricorn brings clarity and dependability as well as steadiness into the equation.  Mars and Saturn in sextile to this lunar position, and also to Neptune, bring opportunities to make things happen and the necessary push to propel us forward with these objectives.

What you do with these energies, of course, will be in your hands.  Sextiles imply opportunities but often need to be pushed ahead through our own actions.  Do not limit your own capabilities.  Set standards which not only offer viable advancement of your alignment with spirit and psychic potential, but will also advance your inner understanding of the “why” behind this incarnation.

BUILDING IN STRENGTH

Do you see life in stages?  Do you recognize life’s lessons?

What stage are you at? 

Now let’s do that again, without any type of judgement.  Let’s just note the facts and it doesn’t matter if they are good or bad, right or wrong. 

It feels different looking at life that way, doesn’t it!

What have you learned over the past year and how has it affected you?  Do you feel stronger?  Are you more in touch? 

The inner self has great resilience.  At times, we may believe that we are regressing in the physical world, but in reality, our outer personality may be dormant yet we are strengthening our inner core. 

We are specifically referring to this inner core.  Our soul of higher self is the foundation of who we are and can always be relied upon.  

When we suggest a review, we are referring to is the individual that we are building throughout the process of this life.  This “inner self” we refer to (not the soul) is the outer layers of the onion, if you will, that we are currently growing (but remember this is not the thinking mind either).  The inner self is not the mind, as thoughts are generated through expectation or past experience.  The inner self is the one that has been a spectator for all of these life experiences and is more adept at handling life’s lessons than our responsive, mental self.

If you are currently feeling somewhat lost and that life is being rough-handed and that life is seemingly pulling you in all different directions, know that the fog will lift and the grip will release.  That lost part is only the thinking mind.  The warmth of the light will eventually burn off the fog and you will see clearly again.  You will gain in resilience from your experiences as that is what they are, lessons to grow from not hurdles to keep you down. 

These trials and tribulations strengthen our resolve.... our belief in one’s self as we learn to overcome.  Through these harder lessons we gain momentum and we grow.  We are constantly learning through life’s experience and growth occurs through these experiences.  Without life lessons, we would stagnate.

Life is full of twists and turns, and we will learn to ride the wave.  Sometimes life moves along almost perfectly and other times life can be like a volcano either waiting to erupt or vigorously spewing lava.  Remember these times are beneficial.  Our thoughts about these experiences are what determine how we react to them and what affect they will have on us.  If we focus on the challenging parts of the lesson, the lesson will be extremely difficult.  If we focus on the value of these lessons, the experience will be beneficial. 

The choice is ours.  We can do a professional job using professional tools or we can do an amateur job and ignore the tools at hand.  The more we practice with the tools available, the more precise we become applying them. 

Many of these life experiences have been put in place for our greater good and we are equipped to deal with these experiences either on our own or with help when we ask for assistance.  We are never at the mercy of life, but we are at the mercy of our thoughts.  Be wary of negative thoughts.  They have no real benefit whatsoever.  

Live in the moment and keep reminding yourself of this so that it becomes second nature.  The ego mind is silenced when we are in the moment and through that silence, we can focus on what is important.

Can we take a moment to remind ourselves of the blessings that have come, the blessings that are bestowed upon us regularly in our day-to-day lives?  

Pay heed to how life is good in so many different ways.  Stay focused on these things so that you can draw more of the same your way.

VOID OF COURSE MOON

There have been many inquiries concerns the Void Of Course Moon. 

Many individuals that use Astrology as a regular tool put great emphasis on the Void Of Course periods.

The Moon will frequently go Void Of Course and you can produce a print out for when this happens on many sites.  Make sure that you use your current location when creating the table. 

The Moon is the fastest moving object in Astrology.  It moves through a sign in approximately 2 ½ days.  As it moves through each sign of the Zodiac, it makes a final aspect to a planet while in its orbit until it moves into the next sign.  The void of course period is between the final aspect of one sign to the first aspect in the next sign. 

For example, the Moon makes an aspect to Jupiter at 27 degrees 14 minutes in Aries and then it does not make another aspect until it makes one to Neptune at 1 degree 9 minutes in Taurus.  This period between 27 degrees 14 minutes Aries and 1 degree 9 minutes Taurus is a Moon Void Of Course (VOC) period.

This VOC period will affect every living thing on our planet.  The periods will vary, however, depending on where you live.  It is therefore very important that you are using the correct time zone for where you live.   

In general, people during this VOC period are not completely tuned into what is going on.  They tend to disconnect from the normal state of consciousness and could be considered detached and airy from a mental perspective.  This is not to say that they are completely disconnected, but they are not completely grounded either.

The Moon’s energy has rule over the subconscious, and is connected to the emotions and feeling networks of all individuals.  The sign and house position varies for each individual; hence our different and variable emotional expressions. 

During these VOC periods, which can last from a few minutes or perhaps even seconds to up to three days, our decision making can be unreliable and in some cases unworkable.  People tend to make decisions that often turn out to be challenging as our judgement can be impaired.  Many decisions that we make during these periods often require some modification or correction later on.  In many cases, things just do not work out as favourably as they could which can cause delays and major frustrations as we have to rework what was done under these influences.

What we set out to do often heads in a different direction and can be costly or defective.  We may make decisions with unrealistic expectations which lead to mistakes and inaccuracies. 

If at all possible, it is best to wait until the VOC Moon makes an aspect in the next sign.  However, if you have little choice and you have to move forward, you can expect some delays or unexpected twists in your plans.  You may have to reformulate your plans at a later date.  This is not something that is overly important and pertinent to our overall life’s experience but can certainly be inconvenient at the time.

In our next astrology post on March 8, 2019, we will look specifically at some things that should be avoided and also look at how we can utilize these energies favourably.
