MERCURY, THE PLANET OF THE MIND

As you are undoubtedly aware, we are currently in the sign of Gemini.  As a result, we thought it only appropriate to discuss its ruling Planet Mercury.  Mercury is the closest planet in orbit to the Sun and is never more than 28 degrees away from the Sun.  Due to their close proximity to one another, some people are born with these two planets in conjunction.  A conjunction is defined as two planets being within 8 to 10 degrees from one another.  There is also an aspect called the Cazimi (17 minutes separation or less between the planets).  When this occurs between Mercury and the Sun, the energies of both planets are greatly intensified.

Mercury is the planet of the mind and rules our intellectual abilities and enhances the thought process.  Since Mercury delineates whatever it touches in the horoscope and affects the thinking process greatly, the sign that Mercury is in and the aspects to it from other planets and positions in the natal chart defines how the mind operates. 

Mercury in the birth chart determines how we make sense of our lives and the world around us.  It controls our speech patterns and the way we communicate on a day to day basis.  It is our mental statement to the world and the sense of humor we have.  It also rules quickness of thought.  There is a huge difference between someone with Mercury in Aries, which could be defined as quick responsive thinking, to someone with Mercury in Capricorn, which could be described as slow methodical thinking. 

Some are born with Mercury in retrograde motion (Mercury appearing to be moving backwards in the sky) and when Mercury goes retrograde through transit and touches off the natal retrograde Mercury, the mind may slow down and may even misfire depending on the relationship to other planetary forces within the individual’s horoscope.  This is usually a time when this individual should be careful and perhaps even put off signing important documents and making vital life decisions.

Mercury retrograde at birth is often characterized as an introverted mind where things are thought over relentlessly before making a decision. 

Communication is the key phrase related to the planet Mercury and when we discussed the Sun moving into Gemini recently in a previous post, you may have noticed how the mind was influenced.  Mercury is the ruling Planet of Gemini (and also Virgo).

The intellect is stimulated by the planet Mercury and those with Mercury prominent in their birth chart will have defined intellectual pursuits.  Much will depend on which sign Mercury is in (as mentioned previously) and how it is being aspected in the birth chart.  Please remember though the influences in the birth charts are not set in stone.  In other words, a challenged Mercury in the birth chart can be rectified and bring assistance as we learn from life’s experiences on how to deal with our own personal thinking processes.

TRANSITING SATURN IN OPPOSITION TO THE SUN (GEMINI FORECAST, PART II)

As mentioned in our Part I of our Gemini forecast post on May 31, 2017, transiting Saturn is also in opposition to those with their Sun in the later degrees of Gemini.  The transit from Jupiter to the Sun will do wonders in many areas of life for those that have this aspect in their charts now; however, those with later degrees of Sun in Gemini anywhere from 18 to 29 degrees will also have this opposition to contend with.

Jupiter and Saturn are basically at odds with one-another as Jupiter offers optimism, growth and expansion, while Saturn can be pessimistic and can stagnate growth or at the very least insists that you work hard for your achievements.  So during this period through to the end of 2017 those individuals with later degrees Sun in Gemini may find that although the opportunities are available and the general feeling is that of exuberance, you may have to work harder to achieve your objectives than others.  Quite often the opposition is suggestive of challenging conditions coming from outside sources or from other people.

This does not mean that you should let go of your ambitious objectives or wait until a better time.  As long as you go through a thorough process without missing any steps along the way, the potential is still there for success.  Hard work and perseverance is the call of the day and if you put in the time, cross all the “T’s” and dot all of the “I’s”, you might very well get there and also find that your final results are much more tangible than if this had been an easy ride.

Saturn does offer rewards for hard work and diligence and often these objectives will be built on very solid foundations that can stand the test of time.  Do not slack off!  Do not miss any steps or take shortcuts for it you do, sadly you might be faced with the reality that digging deep and giving your all was what this aspect was all about.  Make sure you have a look at any aspect between natal Saturn and natal Sun.  If the aspect is an easy one, the chances now for success are even greater.  If the aspect is difficult with the natal planets, you will have to put all of yourself into the effort.  Realize that the most valuable lessons learned in life usually come through challenging conditions.

As Jupiter is expansive in its energies and can provide you with physical energies, Saturn can also restrict this so at times you will feel energized and at other times drained.  It is best not to get overly involved in energy usage at this time.  Take nice easy walks in nature or in beautiful places and don’t push yourself beyond your limits.  Exercise is still important, even if you feel drained at times.  The energy drain is likely to come from outside sources, especially people and those in authority positions who may appear to be trying to deflate your ambitions.  Do not allow others to have this control.  Push forward and above all else believe in yourself and recognize what you are capable of doing.

The strongest feeling of depletion may come during the months of March to July then the energies equal out in the late summer months and early fall all of 2017.  It can be nice to understand why you feel the way you do and this forecast (astrology) will help to assist this process of understanding.  Energies of planets are predictable through the use of astrology and you can judge when the timing is appropriate for moving ahead in life and also when to let up a little.  Use this information to your advantage.

MOTHER NATURE

Do the worries and concerns of life stress you out?  Are you held prisoner by the recklessness that seems to surround you?  Are you at the end of your wits and forever searching for some release from the pressures associated with daily life? 

When was the last time you took some time for yourself?  When was the last time you surrounded yourself with the tranquility and natural beauty of nature?  Why do you deny yourself simple moments that have immense healing benefits?

There is nothing that calms us more than the splendor of nature.  A walk in the woods can provide instantaneous relief from stress. 

What is it about nature that has this calming influence over us? 

The songs of the birds, the wind whistling through the trees, the warmth of the Sun or even the brisk coldness can have astounding effects on our mental outlook.  Listen to the gentle sound of rain falling on a lake or the crash of waves meeting a rocky shoreline can be most relaxing.  The waters that surround so many of us have natural magnificence that few artists can even capture.  Watch the waves, even the gentle ones and the colours, reflected by the sky and clouds.  These are captivating and so very soothing.

Nature (for most of us) is where we belong.  This is where we feel at home.  It is a place where the pressures of life naturally dissipate. 

The next time you are caught up in a life experience that is not overly pleasing, take time to ground yourself and allow yourself time to escape even if only for a short time.  If you cannot get out of the City go to a local park or beach, take off your shoes and place your bare feet on the sand or grass.  Be one with nature and experience its timeless beauty.  The most beautiful things in life are free for the taking.  Enjoy what is available.  Nature is for all to enjoy.

TRANSITING JUPITER TRINE NATAL SUN, (GEMINI FORECAST, PART I)

For those who have their Sun in the sign of Gemini, transiting Jupiter is making a trine during 2017 until October when it moves into the sign of Scorpio.  Anyone who has their Sun in Gemini, (the most inquisitive sign by the way) from 13 degrees to the final degree of Gemini will be affected by this transit.  You can feel the energies of Jupiter as it approaches your Sun up to five degrees before it reaches the same degree as your Natal Sun, and it also will have an affect although dissipating in energy as much as 2 to 3 degrees separating beyond the degree of your Natal Sun.

Jupiter in trine to the Sun is a very promising position although those with a later degree Sun (20 degrees or more) will also have the opposition to transiting Saturn at the same time, often making objectives harder to achieve or at the very least not without putting for some effort. 

Jupiter promotes optimism, good luck and fortunate circumstances and when attached to the Sun, it energies offer opportunities for achievement in occupation, status, life objectives and your most intimate goals in life.  Jupiter brings expansion and a broad-minded approach to whatever endeavours you are currently trying to bring into fruition.

Goals often materialize or at least near the finish line during this cycle.  You may also find that the objectives that come into play can be very personal, sometimes stemming from within and then motivated forward.  Make sure that you make the best of this configuration as you may feel inclined to just sit back and let life take its natural route.  This is actually the time to pursue your objectives and not to just sit back.  The energies seem so opportunistic, you may feel this way but do not waste this opportunity.

Those with creative talents (this creativity can be experienced in many ways not just in artistic adventures) will find that the avenues of expression are enhanced.  If this is you, you may have ideas that now have the potential to flourish and mature into something very worthwhile.  Make the most of this time; simply by doing and/or reaching out for guidance if you are not sure which way to turn or what direction to follow.  The house placement of your Sun as well as the house placement of transiting Jupiter will offer up some ideas as to what areas of life are involved.  Make sure to check the house that natal Jupiter is in as well as the house cusp or cusps ruled by Sagittarius as these will also provide more details.

The Sun’s energy also deals with vitality and with Jupiter making such a viable transit, you may find that your health is robust. 

Watch for over-exuberance when it comes to eating.  Jupiter tends to expand everything it touches including the waist line. 

It is a great time to become exercise oriented and setting up a healthy routine of exercise and proper diet is highly suggested.  Enjoy the great outdoors. 

Take advantage of the energies and do something for yourself and your health now.  It is quite appropriate for the energies available.

HEALING EMOTIONAL WOUNDS, PART II

On May 25, 2017, we were looking at dealing with emotional events or major changes in life.  We will continue today with these thoughts.

Living in the moment and experiencing the now is all we really have.  Expectations and living in the past set us up for emotional wounds. 

Life is always taking us where we need to go.  Many of us believe that there are much greater forces at work.  Let go and let God, some would suggest.  Others want to have a hand in all that unfolds.  Perhaps a balanced blend of both is what is required.

Some suggest that we should move forward without any expectations.  Others suggest that we hold on to what is dear and meaningful and maintain these as our focus.   

What feels right to you in your situation?  What do you feel you need to do (not want to do) as a result of the conditions in your life?  The answer can be found deep within.  Sometimes the answer is not what we want to hear so we ignore it.  Do not get stuck on “would have”, “should have” or “could have”.  Life is about moving forward.  You cannot stay back in the mindset of regret.  This is not productive.

Do not personally own events in life.  Allow yourself the freedoms you need to move forward.  Listen to the voice within.  Listening intently through quiet meditation often produces the answer that we need.  There is a greater force within that knows what we need and who understands the “why” even when our minds do not. 

You can find your way through but if you deem it necessary ask for advice or assistance.  You do not have to do this alone.

It is your journey.  Experience this journey fully by living in the moment.  The past is but a memory.  Tomorrow may never come.  Right now is yours!  Run with it............

TRANSITING MERCURY AND THE MIDHEAVEN (MC)

In general, transiting Mercury moves quickly through the Zodiac.  It moves through a single sign in about 3 weeks.  When it goes retrograde, which occurs about 3 times a year, plans to sign agreements are best left until it goes direct (each retrograde cycle usually last about 4 to 5 weeks).  Many fear the Mercury retrograde cycle but this cycle should be used as a preparation time so that we can move forward once Mercury turns direct again.

Mercury retrograde would be especially strong in an Astrology chart if it conjuncts, squares, or is in opposition to an angle or planet by less than three degrees and especially if Mercury is retrograde in the natal/birth chart.

When Mercury moves across the Midheaven, this would be a time when our profession or work holds particular importance.  Perhaps this would be a time to prepare for upcoming events, or to make significant plans that will have an impact on you and/or others.  When Mercury crosses the Midheaven, communication in any form is highlighted.  It should be noted however that in general the energies of the Midheaven are not directly related to your personal life so whatever events may take place will not have an impact on your private life.

If Mercury is in retrograde, this should be a time when you review any upcoming details that need to be addressed for the near future.  You can analyse this information and put the final touches on your plans so that all will be in perfect shape when the time is right to bringing this information or your proposals to those in a positions of authority or to those who will be affected by your plans.  If you plan and set goals during the time that Mercury is in retrograde and decide to pursue these before Mercury has turned direct, the potential for these to come to fruition is not as favourable if you were to wait out the retrograde cycle and take action after Mercury has turned direct.  This is not to say that you will not reach your goals but events may not run as smoothly as they would if Mercury were direct.  On the other hand, however, if you are naturally drawn to procrastination then the retrograde period often suggests that you pursue things now.  Which applies to you?

Mercury rules the thinking process and how the mind works.  The Midheaven or MC deals with plans, our occupations, our life’s status, our ego and our public reputation.  It is important to recognize which stage Mercury will be in when reviewing material that you want to make public.  The activation of Mercury’s energies will be in effect much longer if it is in retrograde.  Also, Mercury will pass the MC three times before it finally goes direct and passes out of influence of the Midheaven.  Insure you use these energies to your benefit to aid reaching your goals particularly by timing action around the end of the retrograde cycle whenever possible.  If life dictates that you cannot time action in accordance to the retrograde and direct cycles, move forward with caution but remain optimistic that you will succeed.
