TRANSITING MARS IN OPPOSITION TO PLUTO

Mars is a quick moving planet and its effects are usually short lived; however, they can be intense.  If transiting Mars moves into retrograde during its connection to a natal planet or natal angle, it may pass over the same position up to three times.  Usually the first pass of a planet will be the most influential of the three hits that the planet or angle will take.  The energies of Mars may last as long as five days over each pass although the strongest impact will be when it is directly on the planet or angle lasting about one day.

Mars is known as a malefic planet although it can also motivate us forward providing the necessary push to help us achieve.  Since others are always part of the process when we are speaking about an opposition, we may pursue our objectives aggressively, but it is likely we will have disputes or opposition with others in the process.  Plans may not run smoothly and others may object to our aggressive pursuit.  The outcome will depend much on the planet involved which in this case we are focusing on Pluto which is often indicative of power struggles.  These power struggles can be relentless and may come directly at us with little if any regard for our feelings.  It might be helpful to have some assistance during these attempts and in most cases, going it alone is not the best choice.

We may find that we try to override others in our attempt at personal success, sometimes stepping on toes in the process.  In doing so, we may feel that everyone is against our efforts and they can easily stifle our progress.  However, the desire to push ahead is powerful and relentless, and we may believe that nothing can stand in the way.  In extreme conditions, which may suggest connections to Uranus or even Saturn, violent conditions can prevail and dangerous situations can occur.  It is best to watch for over-reaction to the energies in place, although this can be difficult.

Review which houses are involved in the equation including the house Mars is found within in the natal chart.   This will provide information in deciphering how these energies might play out and what areas of life will be involved. 

The general condition of natal Pluto will also provide more information as to how these energies will flow.  For example, if natal Pluto is also square to Saturn or in challenging aspect to natal Mars, it might be best to go as easy as possible while still pushing ahead at the same time.  The energies of Mars can be quite productive and can work in our favor if we can find a way to release its energies in an appropriate manner.

WHAT IS PERFECTION?

Perfection is in the mind of the beholder.  Just as we can see perfection, we can also find flaws in life.  Why then would we not give up on our relentlessly focus on flaws? 

Have you done your best, or is there something more you can add to whatever it is you are trying to accomplish?  If your focus still feels incomplete, then there might be more steps to take. 

If you have done all that you can and there is nothing more possible to do to make something better perhaps you are not being realistic.  Perhaps perfection in this case cannot be obtained.  Sometimes you have to release what you hope is possible so that you can enjoy what actually is possible.

Perfection is a state of mind, and in some cases when we can release our expectations, we find contentment where previously there was none.  Your obligation to yourself is to always do your best regardless of outcome. 

Many of us are very hard on ourselves and we can make life much easier if we can avoid being overly judgemental particularly with ourselves and our achievements. 

In many cases in life, perfection just cannot be found.  You can be content with your accomplishments and recognize the beauty in everything, flawed or not.

There is no such thing as failure, only lessons.  If we have to let go and allow, there is a lesson to be learned in that.  No matter how things appear, they are truly perfect for the moment.  If they were not, they would not be.

2018 FALL BEGINNERS & LEVEL II ASTROLOGY COURSES

Holm Astrology is offering both a beginners Astrology course and a Level II Astrology class this fall. 

For those with an interest in Astrology but little practical knowledge, the beginner’s course (consisting of nine classes) which will commence Monday, September 10, 2018, would be the perfect place to start.  This will introduce you to the signs, planets, houses and more.  Please see our course outline at www.holmastrology.com/beginner-s-course

For those that have already taken our beginner’s course or have the equivalent knowledge covered in the course (see outline), Holm Astrology’s Level II Astrology course is commencing on Tuesday, September 11, 2018.  This Level II course will consist of ten classes, the main focus of which is transits.  Visit www.holmastrology.com/level-ii for a complete course outline.

 Classes for both courses will be from 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. again Beginner’s on Mondays and Level II on Tuesdays.

INNER PLANETS IN TRANSIT

When we refer to the transits of the inner planets, this would include the Sun, Mercury, Venus and Mars.  These planets and the Sun’s influence are often of minor significance as these pass quickly through the heavens and their energies are short lived.  An inner planet moving in direct motion (without retreating in its retrograde cycle) can have an effect for as long as there are other factors making connection to it at the same time which can be maybe eight days.  Mars and Venus specifically can last as much as 6-8 days depending on the orb of influence we allow as Astrologers. 

In general, although transits from the more influential outer planets can be felt for up to 5-7 degrees approaching, some people are even sensitive to their influence before the 7 degrees approach.  The energies are in force as much as 2-3 degrees when the energies are separating.  The orbs are about the same or a little less with inner planetary transits.  Mercury, Venus and Mars move approximately one degree per day as well as the Sun which moves roughly one degree and one minute each day. 

The Sun and Mars, however, are often used as timers in Astrology and can set off an outer planetary transit while in orb which can be quite impacting.  (The progressed Moon and especially transiting Uranus also speak of timing of events.) 

I personally knew someone who had transiting Pluto in opposition to natal Uranus which was in the seventh house and at the same time they had transiting Mars directly in conjunction with Pluto which were also conjunct their natal Mercury.  This individual experienced the death of someone very close to them.  Proof that transiting Mars played a big part in this unfolding story. 

Mercury on its own will have little impact while in transit as it needs to pick up energies from other planets in the chart to even be felt.  Venus and Mars have a stronger influence, particularly Mars, although they are more noticeable when they are making a conjunction, square or opposition to a planet or angle in the birth chart.

RELIABILITY

Are you reliable? 

Is reliability important?

Call me old fashioned but I believe that when someone tells me something, I should be able to count on them to follow through on their word.  If what we want to promise to someone else is not guaranteed we should hold off on telling them.  We should be responsible for not only our actions but our word as well.

 

Not only should we take our commitment to others seriously, we certainly need to take our commitment to ourselves just as seriously.  If we can’t depend on ourselves, who can we rely on? Making a commitment is the same as a promise and I cannot help but remember a book we use to ready to our children and then our grandchildren, “A Promise is a Promise” by Robert Munsch.

In following through, we strengthen not only our commitments and obligations but we build self esteem and pride in ourselves.  We become reliable, most importantly to ourselves. 

Do you remember someone making a commitment to you and then not following through?  This can not only be very disappointing but can be very disruptive if the broken commitment formed part of a larger plan! 

Build self-respect and self- esteem through your commitments.   Honour yourself and honour others.

UNASPECTED PLANET IN A NATAL CHART

In most natal charts, each planet makes aspects to other planets or to the angles in the chart.  When we speak in terms of aspected or unaspected planets, we are referring to the natal planets and not the transiting or progressed planets. 

An unaspected planet in the natal chart is a planet which receives no aspects from any other planets and is not aspecting any of the angles either (ASC,DC, MC or IC).  This lonely planet does not mix with the rest of the chart and operates totally on its own energies.

This is such a rare occurrence, we could not find an example.

When deciphering the influence of a planet that has no aspects and is giving no aspects, it is important to note that it can operate in two different ways.  It may express its energies in a dynamic manner without any other mitigating factors due to its unaided nature.  It is important to look at the planet, its house position and the sign it is in as these combined represent its expression.  Nothing about its energies is hidden or concealed and it has full expression.  In contrast, the energies of the planet in question may remain dormant and do not express themselves at all.

For example, those with Mercury unaspected in the natal chart may have a challenging time when it comes to communication or self-expression.  This may be particularly so if for example Mercury was in the sign Capricorn and in the twelfth house, although this individual might find expression through self-exploration or mystical pursuits; a thorough study of these pursuits and a very realistic approach would be necessary however. 

If Venus were unaspected, then the expression of love may be cut off, or in contrast they may seek out love as an expression that is most valid to whom they are.

In general people who have an unaspected planet in the natal chart will have to assert a lot of vigor getting the energy force and expression of that planet out into the open.  This is not an easy quest although during times of a strong transit or when they meet an overly assertive person, who seem to have the missing qualities that are stifled in the chart individual, they can move forward into a greater degree of self-expression.  This would not come without challenging the situation, however, and making a strong effort to achieve what they set out to do.  It would not come easy.

DOORS

There can be many twists and turns in our life’s journey.  We venture forth with great enthusiasm and with this enthusiasm we can push through adversity and challenging conditions as we strive for knowledge and more. 

We will occasionally find ourselves confronted with a situation that appears to be insurmountable but with patience and an open mind we will find that a will door open where previously none existed.

These new doors are often found when we have reached our wits-end and simply let go.  We have finally released and out of nowhere there is a new opportunity…..apparently materializing out of nowhere, the perfect resolution is presented. 

Through release these opportunities appear.  We push until there is nothing more to do; we let go and finally allow our pure life force to take control (sometimes without conscious understanding of this).

There is always a doorway waiting to be found and sometimes we are so busy and focused on looking for it, we cannot see it. 

Searching and wanting implies that we are without and are lacking in life.  This energy attracts more doing without and lacking.  Remember, our focus is the key and we only get what we are focused on.

Opening the door by “letting go” and “letting life” seems far too simple.  As a result, rarely do many of us take that route.  We always think that acceptance is giving up.  Allowing is not giving up or giving in.  It is knowing that there is an energy much greater than that of an earth-bound individual stuck in their mental mind.  Letting go and having faith allows our higher energies to flow.

Stop fighting the process.  Release your anxiety and worry.  Life always goes as it should, even when it seems as though it isn’t.  You will always be presented with the right door and it will open if you just allow it to.  Let this door reveal itself and simply be.
