PARENTAL INFLUENCE

In some way, we are influenced by those we meet along life’s journey, and in particular, we are highly influenced by our parents and family members.  If we think about how we were brought up, we probably note that many of the things that our parents taught us have been carried forward and we are still utilizing some of them today. 

It can work quite the opposite as well.  Because of some of the ways we were influenced we are determined NOT to bring forward some of these influences.  In some cases we were influenced by our parents in a very challenging way (I refuse to use the word “negative”) and now because of these, we teach or influence our children differently.  We should be thankful that we have learned from these lessons as our children benefit from these.

In many cases the foundation of our attitude and belief structures were put in place in our formative years and we have hopefully adapt these throughout our lives.  If we were loved and felt warmth and compassion from our parents, most likely we are comfortable in our own skin.  We move forward with confidence and with fewer internal challenges than some others who may have experienced little or no love and affection.  It is important to remember though that love and affection can be shown in many different ways however.

There are conflicting articles as to the most impressionable years of a child’s development – some say the first five years, some say the first seven years and yet others same from six to 14.  Apparently, all years are important to provide a positive influence on our children and their development. 

Do we teach our children through fear or do we teach them through love?  This question may seem ridiculous to most of us but certainly one that needs to be contemplated.  What example are we setting?

So many parents teach their children to engage their minds but equally important, are we teaching them to engage their hearts?  If they learn to respect and love themselves, they will be able to love and respect others.

Even though we are influenced by our upbringing, when we reach the age of self awareness, we are free to choose and mold our own personal responses to life.  We are free to change any aspect of ourselves and nothing from our past has to be adopted as our own.  If our upbringing was less than ideal, we can accept our past as that (our past) and we can move forward and leave it where it belongs, in the past.   

Once we reach the stage of self awareness we realize that we are responsible for whom we are.  No one has control over us unless we hand over that control to them.  Sometimes we just need to look back to see and understand what took place and by doing so, we realize that we can make any change we want to.

Yes, our parents have an influence and can provide us with a good foundation but with self awareness if that foundation makes you feel less than perfect, we have the choice of pouring new footings and building your own foundation.

MOON SQUARE SATURN (Natal aspect)

Those individuals that Saturn has a square aspect to the Moon in their natal chart likely have a difficult time expressing their emotions.  This is particularly true if, for instance, Mercury is also square to the Moon perhaps in conjunction with Saturn.  They may appear emotionally distant, cold or detached but this may not hold true on an internal perspective, especially if the Moon is in a water sign.

When we look only at the Moon and Saturn (without any other influence), these individuals may actually be hesitant to express their emotions.  Perhaps there could be a reluctance to display emotions because they were restricted emotionally by a parent.  Quite often those with this combination had a challenge due to the resistance of emotional release from the mother, and as a result, they were not permitted or were held back from releasing their emotions.  They may have been pushed to bury their sensitivity at a young age.  The Mother or “normally more feminine parent” may have been a strict disciplinarian and always showed strength and determination.  This parent may have wanted to pass this on to their children.  Much will depends, however, on the sign of the Moon and its house placement in the natal chart.

The Moon also is reflective of our nurturing abilities and our protective instincts towards our own children and those that we deem to be emotionally in need.  Individuals with this square would most likely have a protective urge and would keep their children within arm’s reach.  There may be a fear that their children need to be protected and they will do so with great intensity.  There may also be challenging conditions linked to nurturing and their ideas of nurturing may be tight fisted and there would be a lesson of learning to have a softer touch.  These individual could be hard on their children and also hard on themselves from an emotional perspective.

Saturn can also be reflective of a demanding authoritative figure. 

In personal terms, this combination can suggest an individual who is very controlled and disciplined always appearing to be in control of life’s situations and never showing their sensitivities.  Emotions may be viewed as a weakness and even when they are experiencing turmoil within, they appear restrained and measured. 

Saturn is the disciplinarian but also the teacher.  Although the road to emotional expression may be hindered, the goal may be to restrain oneself in emotionally intense situations in life and in turn to learn from this approach. 

Control may be a lesson in this life.  A more relaxed and slow but deliberate release of emotions may unclog the tension that this natal aspect might hold.  Letting go of fear can reduce this tension and it is important to know that all challenging aspects in the birth chart can be remedied if the individual is willing to put in the work to overcome and learn from the aspect.  If they can do this, the energies will no longer hold them tight on a leash.

A WARM TOUCH

There are so many people struggling with issues and they feel alone and without assistance.  They feel lost in the confusion and caught up in stories and expectations. 

What stories initiated these feelings – a relationship, self-worth, past experiences when it seemed it did not matter how hard they tried, they always felt stifled by those that meant the most to them?  Many of us carry the past forward into today’s experience and continue on with an attitude that only hinders our progress.

If not us personally, many of us know someone who is dealing with these exact issues.  We can offer assistance and sometimes all they need to do is talk and get their feelings out.  Life can be very difficult for those caught up in the shortfalls of their expectations. 

Most of us at some point in life have spent some time in this place. A kind word or a honest observation may be exactly what is needed to help propel these individuals beyond their current focus.  We may not even be aware of the importance of our words yet they can be a defining moment in someone else’s life.

We are here to experience life in the moment.  The ride may be bumpy at times but this is only temporary if we do not set up shop in an event’s memory.  We are all very resilient and in most cases each of us can get through challenging experiences on our own but there is no substitute for the support and love of friend and family. 

With the experience of another hurdle behind us, we are just a little bit wiser and stronger from the experience.  Many times, our focus and expectations stand in our way to overcome that hurdle quickly.  If we can allow and acknowledge and then move on, life is so much easier emotionally.

For those around us going through a life lesson, we can be that helping hand, that warm touch.  We can offer support which in turn provides the last little push for these individuals to lift themselves over the hurdles.  Although we can offer advice and loving support, they are the ones that have to discover their own strength and make the decisions necessary to find their way clear to learn the lessons as they are presented. 

Offer that helping hand.  Be that warm touch of support.  It never hurts to let someone know that you are by their side and remind them that they can overcome and be better for it in the end.

Life’s lessons can always be learned and once digested are the source of strength and growth.

SUN SQUARE MARS IN THE NATAL CHART

Information about our path in life, our self-expression and most any other thing about who we are and the journey we are taking can be outlined in our Astrology chart. 

An Astrology chart is a road map of our life’s journey and can be very indicative of the view that we experience along the way.  It defines our upbringing, our emotional interaction, our expression and thought process, our love expression or lack thereof and our sense of well being just to touch on some examples.  The birth or natal chart is the snapshot of our lives written in the language of an Astrologer and forever embedded in our consciousness.

The Sun characteristics are a definition of our inner self.  It indicates the path we will follow and is suggestive of our goals in life and our self-expression.  The Sun by aspect also describes our experience with our father or the more masculine parent and our concepts of this individual.  The Sun is tied to our path.  The aspects to it will in part define how we move ahead in life and will define obstructions on the path.  It will give us indicators of how we can use the energies to our advantage as we propel ourselves forward in life.

Our focus today is the Sun Square Mars in the birth or natal chart.  We will focus on what this aspect would suggest in a birth chart.  With the Sun square to Mars especially by tight aspect, this individual would feel as though life has to be fought in order to win or move ahead.  It would be suggestive that this will not be an easy journey, but the energy of a square does provide the push to move beyond barriers that stand in the way of life’s progress and this individual will strive to overcome any adversity.  Mars and the Sun are similar in that they are both linked to achievement, energy and drive in life.  With the square aspect, work is required on some level, much is dependent upon the signs of Mars and the Sun, as well as the houses they are located in within the birth chart.  The challenge for this individual would be to move through adversity and strive to make something out of self.  This may be from an internal perspective but can also be based on outer achievements and a strong push to succeed at their life’s endeavors.

The Sun, as mentioned, does represent the father or more masculine or disciplinarian parent.  With the square to Mars, it is often representative of a battle on some level with this parent.  This may have been in physical terms as they may have had an argumentative disposition which could create combative and  challenging situations.  This parent may also have been the propelling force behind promoting self which in turn pushed for achievement.  This parent may have been aggressive or gruff in their behaviour and they may have used forceful tactics to achieve what was important to them.  This parent probably had to fight for success just as the child (subject of the astrology chart) most likely will have to.  The relationship between the two, this individual with the aspect and their parent in question, may not have been easy, but hopefully the individual with this aspect can find a way of understanding their parent’s motives.  This parent may feel that in order to achieve it is important to push one’s self and that the road of life may not be an easy one, so the parent’s methods may not be considered passive and gentle.

If the energies of this aspect are used appropriately, this individual will find a way to push past any obstruction and will have a strong drive to conquer anything that stands in their way.  This aspect will promote strength and determination to succeed regardless of intrusion and will build character and an inner determination as time passes. 

If the energies are not used appropriately, this individual may give in to the pressures of life and feel that it is useless to pursue any goals of meaning because of the hurdles that seem to stand in the way. 

It is important to understand that all challenges within the natal chart can learn and overcome.  Once we have learned from the challenges, we building strength and endurance; and we learn to recognize that we can conquer anything with the right approach.

SUN IN SAGITTARIUS NOVEMBER 22/2018

SUN IN SAGITTARIUS NOVEMBER 22/2018

The Sun moved into the fiery sign of Sagittarius late on November 22, 2018 in our area (Ontario). 

Those with their Sun sign in the element fire are enthusiastic about life and eager to make things happen.  They are energetic, self-motivated, self-confident and optimistic in their approach.  They often react spontaneously without much forethought and are stimulated by life.  These qualities are quite common for anyone born under a fire sign or with a strong emphasis in the element fire in their birth charts.

Sagittarians are enthusiastic about life’s experience and have a love of travel and the outdoors.  The wide open spaces intrigue them and exploration is high on their priority list. 

In most cases, they are optimistic about life and you would find them stating, even under the harshest conditions, that “something good is just around the next corner”.  Their optimism can be quite contagious.  Much of this approach to life’s matters is due to their ruling planet which is Jupiter.

Jupiter is an expansive energy and when linked to Sagittarius, there will be an interest in philosophy, religion, spirituality and anything that can provide them with the opportunity to expand their horizons.  Some will go to extremes to further their education, whether this education is actual schooling or the school of life.  Often higher education is part of the typical Sagittarian goals.  These individuals are open to most anything that you would classify intriguing.  They search for the truth in life through personal experience. 

Those with their Sun in the early degrees of Sagittarius currently have Jupiter conjunct their Sun.   Jupiter will transit all those with their Sun in Sagittarius at some point (timing will depend on the degree of their Sun) until December of 2019.  As Jupiter is the ruling planet of Sagittarius this is considered a very favorable conjunction, although the whole natal chart has to be examined to see how this could transpire. 

Jupiter brings with it good luck and opportunities for expansion.  If, for example, this conjunction would fall in the second house of the astrology chart, the potential for financial increase is heightened when the conjunction is direct.  Any security issue would also work in a favorable manner, but once again you have to take into consideration all the other transits including Neptune which is square this placement and Uranus which is in trine to this placement currently.  If the Sun is poorly aspected in the birth chart then the potential is not as favorable as it would be if the Sun were well aspected.

Transiting Uranus (as a result of the trine mentioned earlier) could bring opportunities in an unexpected manner for those with their Sun in the late degrees of Sagittarius.  Trines bring easy flow and beneficial potential, while squares bring obstacles and may indicate challenging conditions linked to this configuration. 

Transiting Neptune is square to those with their Sun in the mid degrees of Sagittarius.  It would be wise to make sure that any plans with pushing ahead with some goal be reviewed for clarity before plunging headfirst into action if your Sun is in the mid degree of Sagittarius.  Neptune tends to put a veil of uncertainty over things especially when it is square by aspect.  However, it could also open doors to mysticism and spirituality, although it would not come easily and a lot of self-reflection would be required (without rose colored glasses being worn).  It is important to see things as they are, not as you might wish them to be.  Realism is important with this connection but can be found under the right conditions.  Once again, you will have to take into consideration the overall story the birth chart is telling and all other mitigating factors that might either impede or augment this aspect between Neptune and the Sun.

REMOVING THE SHACKLES

We can be tightly bound by our beliefs.  If, for example, we think of ourselves as a failure in life, or believe that we are not worthy of love and happiness, then we stop ourselves short of success, love and happiness.   

If we believe that there is little to no future for us, how can we possibly move beyond these barriers to build the future of our dreams?  We have reduced our potential and have held ourselves back because of these attitudes.

Some have argued that “off and on throughout life I have been faced with challenging conditions and it seems as though no matter how hard I try to push ahead nothing seems to ever work.” 

We do not know what this journey will hold for us and at times we will experience conditions and events that we did not choose to experience.  However any challenging experiences offer rewards.  I am sure you have heard this before and you may be tired of hearing such statements.  Part of you may believe these to be hogwash.  If this is the case, why are there repetitive themes in life?  Why to the same issues keep resurfacing?

If we do not learn, the lesson will repeat. 

Our attitude can make a valuable lesson easily learned or it can make a valuable lesson feel as though it is a punishment.  Pay attention to how you look at life’s events. 

Sometimes lessons repeat themselves because we need to make changes in our surroundings and other time we just need to shift our attitude.  Believe it or not, the easiest test is to make a shift in attitude and then review where this takes you. 

Change may not happen overnight but then again it might.  It is important to remember that it has taken us some time to get to where we currently are so it is quite possible it may take some time for the shift to take hold but that is okay.  We are not in a hurry. 

Have patience and believe in yourself.  See ego’s chatter for what is actually is.  Ego insists on giving you a hard time and the closer you get to recognizing its false influence, the harder it tries to convince you it is right.  Eventually we see ego for what it really is and we do not have to give it control over our lives.

Ego, from its negative perspective, does not realize that we can actually have a wonderful working relationship.  With the proper relationship ego can help and we can be stronger because of it.  Ego can nurture our creative self.

It is time to release the shackles of negative attitude and underestimating our ability to love life.  As with everyone, we are entitled to happiness and we can prosper in our own ways.  Life provides whatever we feel we are worthy off.  If you feel unworthy, you will be.  If you love yourself, life will be filled with love.  Recognize that life reflects our believe structure and our expectations.
