DETERMINING THE STRENGTHS IN AN ASTROLOGY CHART

Although the Sun is often considered to be the determining factor in planetary strength in an Astrology chart, it is important to take into consideration any emphasis within the natal chart as well.  

For example, someone with a Capricorn Sun, although very much an achieving sign, could be an individual that is introverted and subject to challenging conditions when releasing emotion.  Because emotion is represented by the Moon in our charts, much of course as far as emotions are concerned will depend on the Moon’s positioning and sign emphasis within the natal chart.

Continuing with the example of the Sun in Capricorn, let’s say that this individual has a rising sign of Leo.  Leo, as we all know, is not submissive or introverted.  Leo individuals will speak their mind; they will want control and can be very aggressive when pursuing their objectives.  Anything Leo represents is far from quiet or reserved unlike a Capricorn individual.  This Leo influence will change the expression of our example individual with a Capricorn Sun.  

Continuing, let’s say that this individual has five planets in the fifth house, which is naturally ruled by the sign Leo.  This placement of the five planets will now intensify an already outspoken and extroverted individual (even though they have Sun in Capricorn).  The five planet placement again softens the Capricorn influence at least with respect to being subdued and introverted.

The need for recognition and an extreme need to achieve will now become a primary focus of this individual in our example.  They will work exceedingly hard to make a name for themselves and stop at nothing to reach their goals.  This individual would now be seen as aggressive in their pursuits, while the Capricorn without the added emphasis of Leo would slowly (and perhaps behind the scenes) work towards a similar objective.  Leo’s influence adds to the flavour of this Capricorn Sun individual.  This would be particularly true if for example they had the Sun (inner self, core identity), Mars (energy and drive, passion and action) and let’s say Mercury (mind’s focus and thought process) in this fifth house position.  

Now put the North Node (life’s purpose) and perhaps Jupiter (expansion and grow) in this house as well and we now have a very strong emphasis of Leo influence in this chart.  

It would be somewhat different if Saturn (Karma, restrictions, life lessons) was placed here or Neptune (illusion, inspiration, psychic development).  

It is imperative to decipher and expand on what the whole chart is saying.  Always take into consideration the planets and their positioning and any emphasis as well.

In deciphering the story a chart is telling, it is also important to take into consideration the number of aspects to any one planet.  A planet with many aspects to it can play a central role in determining planetary strength; however, if all these aspects had a wide orb, they may still have an impact although certainly not have the same powerful they would have if they were in tight aspect.  The type of aspect also changes the strength of the influence being made.

In deciphering the story, it is also important to see how many planets fall into each element and quality.  When calculating, using the Sun and Moon we give two points to each, the rest of the planets we give one point, the Ascendant and Midheaven also count as one point each and the Nodes each have half a point.  

I, personally, do not use the asteroids or the part of fortune when calculating points for influence, although they certainly have their part in the overall story of the chart.  

If you have a total of 6 points or greater in any given element (air, water, fire and earth) or quality (cardinal, fixed, mutable), this will signify an emphasis in the element and quality.  For example if you have 7 points in Cardinal and 6 points in water, the water cardinal sign which is Cancer would be emphasized and could be a determining factor when deciphering the chart for strength.

In the face of adversity, push forward; When in doubt, push forward; When you feel safe, push forward, When you are worried about failure, push forward; When you are told by everyone that you will never make it, push forward; If the road ahead looks impassible, push forward; If the path ahead looks easy, push forward; If you are worried about the final outcome, push forward; If you think you might have made a wrong decision, study the route options, then push forward; If you are at wits end, take a breath and push forward; If you feel you are at the mercy of life, push through it and push forward; Under all conditions, push forward!

I could keep going but suffice to say that the only roadblocks, the only thing holding you back is your decision not to push forward.  Build your confidence, set your sights and push forward.

You are stronger than you think.  Push yourself forward.

MOON SIGN and HOUSE POSITION

In our posts on June 22 and 25, 2018, we focused on the Moon and aspects to it.  June 27 we looked at the Moon sign and the effects of the element it is in.  Today, we will focus on the Moon and its house position.

The Moon’s influence certainly is different depending on what house it is located in.  As most of us understand, houses are areas of life in the Astrology chart and our Moon’s placement by sign and house will determine how we react to life’s events in a specific way.

 

Someone with their Moon in the second house at birth will find that finances and security are key factors in their life.  They may spend a lot of time preparing for their future and their retirement plans might begin early in life, especially if they have their Moon in an earth sign such as Taurus. 

Someone with their Moon in the tenth house might differ from someone with their Moon in the second house as they would be emotionally concerned with their rise in the material world (as would the second house) but those concerns for someone with the Moon in their tenth house would be through ways connected to their career and public standing in the community. 

Someone with their Moon in the seventh house might be emotionally drawn to relationships of significance and may place a great amount of importance on their choice of marriage partner. 

Moon in the eleventh house might find solace and emotional contentment with close friends or groups of individuals that are of like-mind.

Of course, the picture would become more clear when we look into the angles between the Moon and other planets as the angles will certainly colour our emotional expression and our ability to express these.  So not only do we have to look at our Moon by sign and house, we also have to look at the Moon by aspect in our natal chart to get the full picture of this emotional area of our life.

While the sign position is very important and the house position is the area of life where our emotional vibrations can be released or expressed or hindered because of sign or aspect, we also have to remember the natural rulers of each house.  Beginning with the first house, the natural ruler is Aries and the second house is ruled by Taurus and continuing and finally ending with the twelfth house which is naturally ruled by Pisces.  These natural rulers play a significant role in determining our emotional expression.  Someone with their Moon in the first house regardless of the Moon’s sign positioning will also have similar tendencies as someone with their Moon in the sign of Aries.  Someone with their Moon in the fifth house will have some similar tendencies as someone with their Moon in the sign Leo and so forth.

The Moon can be very complicated in its expression, but with practice and experience we can become acquainted with our natal Moon’s positioning and its expression. 

Each planet and luminary in our Astrology charts carry their own energies.  The signs and houses play just as a significant role with each of these as well.  It should be noted that outer planets’ house positions are actually more relevant as the planet’s positioning by house and sign are areas that will affect generations in a similar manner and as a result, have a much broader influence.

FULL MOON - JUNE 28, 2018

We are experiencing the Full Moon in Capricorn (6 degrees) today, June 28, 2018 (right around midnight).  As many of our reader know, the Full Moon (called the Strawberry Full Moon this month) is a time to harvest the seeds planted earlier in our garden of life. 

Transiting Saturn (the teacher) is making a tight conjunction to this 6 degree mark.  The North Node (Your Path) is also tightly aspecting this Full Moon in quincunx and Uranus (the awakener) is making a trine.

With the Full Moon being in the sign of Capricorn, this can be a time of great achievements.  This could represent a time of reaching your goals and objectives; however, much depends on the amount of preparation you carried out and the effort used to fulfill these intentions.  If you have been diligent in your efforts and made sure that all the preliminary details are in order and you did not take any short cuts, the potential is quite good for a viable outcome.  However, if you are ill prepared, you will probably have to make some alterations and adjustments in order to move ahead.

Capricorn’s energies are often linked with objectives focused in business and enterprise.  Although your goals may have been a long time coming to completion, it should be worth the wait.  Capricorn can be very rewarding with diligent efforts being put forth.  It often brings recognition for hard work and disciplined and organized efforts.  Much, of course, will depend on the overall conditions in the birth chart with regards to this placement.  If there are many challenging aspects to this conjunction then things can be delayed in some way or obstructions may be in place.  If this placement has many favorable aspects, however, then the outcome can flow very easily and the chances for success are heightened.

The tight conjunction with transiting Saturn often brings delays and things may seem to be moving at a snail’s pace.  Hard work is emphasized and there will be hurtles to overcome.  Saturn makes you work for your rewards but with dedication and appropriate application, its rewards often offer stable and secure structures that will stand the test of time.  Your superiors will most likely be involved in bringing your goals to fruition.  Your efforts will have to include making a favorable impression with your superiors.

With the tight quincunx to the transiting North Node, the future path should show a glimmer of light and you may feel as though you are finally moving in the right direction, although often some adjustments are necessary.  You may receive some advice from people that can propel you forward and you may find yourself in the right place at the right time with someone who may have helped you previous to this time.

The trine to transiting Uranus offers up new directions, futuristic opportunities, a different path and often something comes out of nowhere that can help with you goals.  Uranus is very unpredictable in its behaviour and it may be very difficult to know just where these new directions might be stemming from or heading towards.  Sometimes assistance comes from unexpected sources.  Sometimes a push in a different direction is what is needed to achieve the success you are looking for.  Much will depend on the natal positioning of transiting Uranus as well as the natal placement of Natal Uranus.  An overall view of the chart is recommended to see the full picture.

Nonetheless, take advantage of the energies that will be available during this full moon.

MOON SIGN AND ELEMENTS

In our posts on June 22 and 25, 2018 we focused on the Moon and aspects to it.  Today we will look at the Moon sign and the effects of the element it is in. 

The Moon, as defined by Noel Tyle, is our reigning need.  It is our emotional expression, as well as our link to family and the past.  It defines our mother and often the aspect between the Sun and Moon describe the relationship between our parents.  This in turn affects us in many ways and our emotions are included in this influence.  The Moon can speak of our past and early upbringing and will also speak about our relationship with our mother which is often defined by aspects to the Moon from other planets.

The sign position of our natal Moon plays a significant role in our emotional reactions to life’s events and is representative of our emotional disposition.  For example, the difference between someone with their Moon in a water sign and someone with their Moon in an air sign can vary significantly in their emotional expression.  Those with their Moon in a water sign are usually very sensitive and feel their way through life.  Those with their Moon in an air sign are sensitive to emotional interaction from a mental perspective and can be emotionally stimulated by their thoughts and verbal expressions.

Someone with their Moon in Pisces (element of water) would be considered very sensitive to their surroundings and would easily pick up on the vibrations of those around them as well as their environment.  Those with the Moon sign cannot help but express themselves in an emotional manner.  They have no issues with the release of emotions.  Some will consider their emotional state rather weak or hard to control.  Remember, however, that if there are other more strong influences in the chart these characteristics can be watered down.  It is important to look as the Astrology chart as a whole.

Someone with their Moon in the Air sign of Aquarius would relate to their emotional experience through logic and come from a mental perspective, possibly analysing their emotions.  They would also keep their emotions on the inside.  Some feel that those with their Moon in Aquarius are emotionally restrained and withdrawn.  They may even seem emotionally cold and would have a hard time expressing themselves with a natural emotional reaction to any life event.

Those with their Moon in Earth signs are practical when it comes to emotional interaction and wish to define themselves constructively in emotional terms, particularly those with their Moon in the sign of Virgo. 

While those with their Moon in Aquarius are withdrawn or unable to express their emotional expression, those with their Moon in Capricorn react similar and appear cold in their emotional expression.  The difference between someone with their Moon in Aquarius and someone with their Moon in Capricorn is that those with the Aquarius Moon might actually be emotionally diluted because of their mental reasoning abilities, while those with their Moon in Capricorn are actually very emotional but prefer to keep these intense feelings on the inside.  They want to appear emotionally in control.

Those with their Moon in a fire sign such as Aries would have a more aggressive emotional expression sometimes releases through anger or they could be passionate with their emotional release whether in a loving nature or a defensive one.  These individuals can be quite abrupt with their emotional expression.

GUIDING FORCES

We have had a number of clients tell us that they feel as though their journey is being hindered in one way or another.  They feel weighted down and overwhelmed by life’s events which they feel they have no control over. 

It is important to remember that these stages or events in life are not punishments.  They are, however, valuable lessons from which we can experience our greatest growth. 

Because of their attitude, they can feel at the mercy of life and they take the events personally.  As a result, they react in ways that do little to resolve the issues or that take advantage of the lesson at hand.  Their reactions do, however, compound their feelings of moving backwards in their growth. 

What should they do to relieve these tensions?  How can they find hope when everything seems too harsh to deal with?

There are many tools available to us during our trials and tribulations.  It is important, however, to recognize that they are never alone.  There are countless others that walk this journey with us and many others have had or are having experiences exactly as we are experiencing.  Some of these individuals that are with us are angels in earthly bodies and then there are those that are not of this physical world.  These are guiding forces beyond this earthly dimension that can be relied upon.  They are always available to us and we need to realize that we are not alone. 

Quiet your mind.  It can be quite difficult in the beginning but with practice it does get easier.  Again, quiet your mind.  Listen to that gentle, quite voice.  Listen to the inspirational messages that are always being passed on.  Pay heed to those quiet messages for the information they contain is powerful.

Our guides are with us always and working for our benefit.  They are always pushing us in the best possible direction but most of us ignore them because their message is so subtle.  When we are most emotional, the message can be clear if we quiet our minds.  The majority of us tend to get so caught up in events and emotions that we do not notice the gentle nudges that points us in the direction of a solution.  Their guidance or assistance is never overwhelming or forceful.  As we learn to listen to our guides, their voices can become much more direct, and we begin to realize that it is important to listen.  Even with these more clear messages, the delivery is still subtle.  It always comes through in a gentle manner and love is in their expression.

Recognize that we are never alone.  Our guides are always with us. 

We are one of the many sparks that form the fire of life we call source.  If we are all sparks of this one fire, who truly then are our guides?
