Where will you be with true certainty in twenty-five
years? How about ten years? What about tomorrow? Is it really important to clearly understand what
the potential is for you in years to come?
Does it truly matter today?
Most of us assume that everyone has a plan
for their future. This apparently has a
place in today’s affairs. Planning for
what lies ahead has been made very important in human existence and having goals
can make us strive higher.
In reality, however, all we have is today--
this actual moment. No matter how we prepare
for our future we will not know the outcome until that time comes and many
events leading up to that specific time in the future will, without doubt,
change continually making the actual outcome obscure to say the least. So again we ask, Is planning important or are
we just to take life as it comes?
Planning for our goals does provide us with
structure, possible comfort and even enjoyment.
If we build on these plans in one degree or another, potential is heightened
to fulfilling some sort of outcome. Living
in the moment however is even more relevant as when we are always focused on
the future, we tend to lose sight of the ever-present now. We do not learn to have gratitude for all of
our current blessings as we are forever concerned about what we need for the
future. Experience itself passes us by
as we are so busy preparing for our foreseeable future that we forget to enjoy
this moment.
Pay attention to the life you are living
today--the life you are living this moment.
Enjoy the fruits of what you are experiencing in this moment. Make plans for your survival but stay focused
on the here and now. Life beyond tomorrow
is not a guarantee. Tomorrow never comes
and although it is important to physically survive during our earthly life and
create a solid foundation, it is even more important to experience life now and
enjoy what is right in front of us.
What lies ahead will be determined by our
current life’s focus and our expectations.
Building on a life that promotes happiness, success on a personal level,
not necessarily linked to our profession and material rewards, is the key to
unlocking our potential as life passes. We
are building on the here and now in our lives by channeling our focus on what
is real in this moment, rather than what is missing or what has yet to unfold.
We build our future from today’s focus. If we focus on all the good in life and what
we are, as opposed to what we are not, we will automatically build on what
is. Our focus on now builds from our current
gratitude. Forever planning for more in
the future is based on the fact that “now” is lacking that which we are
planning for. Visualizing what it is we
want for our future does create that potential, but being happy and content
with what we have will only add more of the same in our lives. Gratitude puts us in a place of abundance.
What lies beyond this moment is yet to come
and may never materialize. What has passed
has created what is but is no more. The
moment is constant although ever changing.
It is right in front of us always.
